Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan recently recalled how he shot for a song with 40 dancers dressed like Roman soldiers near his school in Switzerland. The actor shared how he was embarrassed and didn’t want anyone from his school to recognise him.
During Galatta Plus’ roundtable session, 12th Fail actor Vikrant Massy quoted Hollywood star Tom Hanks and said, “Lack of self consciousness is what an actor needs the most and I think that’s the most important thing.”
Abhishek Bachchan quickly chimed in, “But Tom Hanks never had to dance with 50 dancers in Leicester Square in the middle of London.” When asked if he is talking about his film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Abhishek shared, “No I was fine by then. But I remember shooting for my second film Tera Jadoo Chal Gayaa in Switzerland. I went to a boarding school in Switzerland. To my horror we were doing a song and we had some 40 dancers from Chennai dressed like Roman soldiers.”
He added, “I am dressed in a polo neck and overcoat and my co-star Keerthi Reddy is fainting in a chiffon saree because it is too cold. We were shooting half-an-hour away from where my school was and I was praying that nobody from my school shows up. To my luck, my drama teacher walked by and he stopped and looked at me. I just turned and bolted from there.”

Speaking about how this scene from the set of a Bollywood film confused Swiss people, Abhishek Bachchan said, “All these Swiss people were sitting there and they couldn’t understand why these two people are lip syncing to a song and there are 40 South Indian Romans in PVC in the background dancing. At times like this, you see your mettle as an actor, to be able to pull yourself out of that and get on with it.”
