John O’Shea’s last match as Ireland manager? Ireland v Switzerland match preview

Following a good 0-0 result last time out against Belgium, John O’Shea looks to go one better in his final game as interim Republic of Ireland manager against Switzerland in the Avia on Tuesday the 26th of March.

Switzerland come to Dublin following a 0-0 draw against Denmark with both sides looking to end the international break with one victory under their belt.

John O’Shea hopes with a win against Switzerland he can cement himself as the favourite to take the Ireland manager job on a full time basis. His side almost got the job done against Belgium but a missed penalty from Ireland’s wonderkid, Evan Ferguson saw the sides battle out a 0-0 draw in the Avia over the weekend.

The sides kick off at 7.45 pm on Tuesday March 26th in the Avia, with the game being shown on Virgin Media. Referee Paweł Raczkowsk of Poland is in charge of the fixture.

Ireland’s interim boss was happy to report a clean bill of health for his squad at a press conference this morning ahead of the class with the Swiss.

Two youngsters have been called up from the under-21s team and hope they can have a say on the game, as Joe Hodge and Andy Moran will be in contention for the match.

In the pre-match press conference Interim Head Coach John O’Shea had this to say:

“My remit was to focus on these two games. If my remit beforehand was, ‘John you’re the full-time new manager’, it might have been a different situation. The focus for me was, ‘these two games John, look after these games and see what happens then.”

“I am focusing on the last game against Switzerland, my focus has been on that right from the start when this process started.”

The Switzerland team have failed to score in their last two games in all competitions, and John O’Shea hopes that form continues as he looks to add another clean sheet as Ireland boss to his resume.
