Switzerland broke two records by winning Eurovision, and one is not commendable – Free Press

Switzerland won Eurovision by decision of expert jury from 37 countries who participated in Eurovision this year.

The spectators were completely surprised by the victory of Switzerland, who had a 15 percent chance of winning compared to Croatia’s 50 percent, writes “Index”. Especially since he entered the finals from only fourth place in the semi-finals.

Switzerland came to victory, interestingly, from the fourth place according to audience points. Never in the history of Eurovision has a performer with fewer points than the audience achieved something like this. Namely, 22 countries out of 37 countries gave 12 points to Switzerland.

The previous record for the number of points from the jury was held by Great Britain, which received 283 points from expert juries in 2022. Switzerland received 365 points from the jury. It has never happened that 22 out of 37 expert juries gave the same performer 12 points each.

Never before have bookmakers missed the winner of Eurovision to such an extent. Swedish singer Lauryn won convincingly last year after entering the finals with the same percentage of chances of winning that Baby Lasagna had this year.

When the odds of winning were over 50 percent, misses were rare. For example, Ukraine in 2022 had more than 50 percent before the final and won convincingly.

After the second semi-final, Israel began to skyrocket in the betting market, and local television became very involved in urging European viewers to vote for Eden Golan and her song “Hurricane”. The Internet was flooded with ads and commercials in which the singer appeared, and it was clear that a completely legitimate and legal campaign was underway.

The Eurovision community and bookmakers assumed that Israel would receive a large number of points from the audience, and Eden entered the Eurovision final with a 20 percent chance of winning.

Before the start of the contest, thousands of people protested in Malmö against Israel’s participation in Eurovision.
