Wish You Were Here: Alpine adventures in Switzerland

Over the last year, our readers have circled the globe, exploring the rivers of Alaska, the savannahs of Tanzania and so much more. And when they returned, they shared their travel tales with us and passed along helpful travel tips, too.

Here’s the latest installment, this time from Switzerland.

SWITZERLAND: Martinez residents Thomas and Jill Doolittle traveled to Switzerland last fall, a return to one of Thomas’ favorite places some 14 years after their first trip. From Zurich, Geneva was a quick flight, he says. “We commandeered a car rental, then drove to Mount Blanc in Chamonix at the French border, then on to Zermatt, where the Matterhorn impressed us with its snowy magnificence. I was expecting bare rock that time of year.” Other stops included Interlaken and St. Moritz.

TRAVEL TIPS: The Doolittles traveled in late September and early October and found Switzerland’s compact size easy to navigate. “We feel the fall was the best time for us — and maybe other would-be travelers — to consider… We never drove more than three to four hours between destinations and would recommend three to four days at each location.”
